Leidos is seeking a Human-Centered AI Research Intern to support Internal Research and Development (IRAD) projects focused on human-centered, agentic AI solutions. In this role, you will contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, human factors, and real-world mission impact. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to prototype, evaluate, and advance AI systems that are explainable, trustworthy, and effective in complex environments.

We are looking for an intellectually curious and adaptable researcher who enjoys collaboration, asks thoughtful questions, and is motivated to contribute to scientific work. You will work closely with junior and senior researchers with expertise in large language models, information retrieval, human-AI interaction, artificial intelligence, and applied statistics.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop research approaches for evaluating human and AI collaboration on agentic AI systems.

  • Conduct original research in areas such as human-AI interaction, explainable and trustworthy AI, predictive analytics, and AI ethics.

  • Collaborate with AI/ML researchers and engineers using Agile and research-driven workflows.

  • Analyze research to identify patterns, insights, and implications for human decision-making.

  • Communicate research findings, methods, and insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Contribute to prototypes, tools, and technologies intended for real-world deployment.

  • Apply appropriate research and evaluation strategies to address project needs.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in degree program and actively seeking Bachelor degree in Psychology, Computer Science, Data Science or related field

  • Familiarity with AI/ML tools and Python libraries

  • Understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, and data analysis techniques.

  • Familiarity with research methodologies, including experimental design, hypothesis testing, and evaluation.

  • Self-starter with strong intellectual curiosity and adaptability.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest or experience in human-centered AI, AI ethics, or explainability.

  • Familiarity with statistics and data visualization.

  • Willingness to learn new tools, frameworks, and research methods.
